Recapping our Global Exchange CEO Conference

We held our Third Annual Global Exchange CEO Conference last week at the Waldorf=Astoria in New York City. CEOs and other senior executives from more than two dozen exchange groups, trading firms, clearing organizations and regulators participated in both solo presentations and panel discussions. In this brief recap we will first present a few key thematic takeaways from the day’s events, then move on to highlights from some of the individual sessions. Slide presentations and video from most of the sessions will be available to clients on our website shortly.

Key Takeaways

Regulation: SEC change will be evolutionary, not revolutionary; Dodd-Frank answers some questions for OTC derivatives markets, but also creates much uncertainty. Not surprisingly, nearly every speaker and panel touched in some way on the regulatory environment. We divide the regulatory outlook into two areas that will most affect the exchange and market-structure space: the OTC derivatives provisions of the Dodd-Frank Act, and the SEC’s ongoing efforts to review and reform securities market structure.
