The 195 corporate stocks and four exchange-traded products that are listed in both Canada and the US had average daily volume across both countries of 525 million shares in October, up 6.1% m/m. Of this total, 236mn, or 45%, traded in Canada (+9.4% m/m) and 289mn, or 55%, traded in the US (+3.5% m/m). This compares with a 56%-44% split in favor of the US in September (see chart below). Market-wide ADV, including single-listed and inter-listed names, rose by 11.4% m/m in Canada and declined by 2.3% in the US. The portion of all Canadian volume coming from inter-listed securities dropped to 30.4% from 30.9%, while the US figure ticked up to 4.0% from 3.8%.
