Biography

IEX

IEX Group, Inc. is a financial technology company dedicated to building technology that moves industries forward. Founded by Brad Katsuyama, Ronan Ryan, Rob Park, and John Schwall, IEX began with a vision for a more transparent stock exchange that better protects investors. This vision led to the creation of the IEX Exchange, a U.S. stock exchange known for its innovative design and commitment to fairness and performance.

IEX’s journey started with the development of its Alternative Trading System (ATS), which debuted a year after the company’s founding. The company’s story is famously chronicled in Michael Lewis’s New York Times Best Seller, “Flash Boys.” Over the years, IEX has introduced several groundbreaking technologies, including the Signal, a mathematical formula designed to identify moments of price instability and protect clients from adverse selection. Building on this, IEX launched D-Peg, a patented order type that shields dark orders from unstable prices.

In 2016, the SEC approved IEX’s application to become a national securities exchange, marking a significant milestone. Supported by major financial institutions like Capital Group, Franklin Templeton Investments, and OppenheimerFunds, IEX continues to innovate with products like the D-Limit order type, which enhances displayed trading by leveraging the Signal.

IEX is also known for its cloud-based financial data platform, IEX Cloud, which democratizes access to high-quality financial datasets. The company’s culture is built on resilience, creativity, and a growth mindset, with a focus on making a positive impact on the industries it serves and the communities it touches.
