Some highlights from this month's issue:
- The 180 equities listed in both Canada and the US had average daily volume across both countries of 349.1 million shares in July, down 23.81% m/m
- Of this total, 180mn (51.6%) traded in the US (-26.87% m/m) and 169mn (48.4%) in Canada (-20.25% m/m), compared with a 53.8%-46.2% US-CAD split in June
- Canadian market-share gains were helped by depressed trading in Neovasc and Bausch Health (formerly known as Valeant Pharmaceuticals), and a volume spike for hostile-takeover target Nevsun Resources
- Market-wide (including single-listed names), ADV fell 19.37% m/m (+10.33% y/y), to 775.4 million shares
- Dark-pool market share rose 8 bps m/m (+134bps y/y) in July, to a fifth consecutive record monthly high of 8.38%
